On the eve of the 2024 European Parliament elections, the opportunities and challenges of increasing youth participation in the European democratic process came under the spotlight. With a focus on media literacy, the Lisbon Council convened a roundtable on how to fight disinformation by empowering young people and protecting democratic values.
The Roundtable on Empowering Young People: Protecting Democracy brought together distinguished experts, including Lie Detectors Juliane von Reppert-Bismarck; Gianmarco Guazzo, senior expert and community manager of the At The School of OpenCohesion project supported by the government of Italy; and Christina Yiannapi, member of the advisory council on youth of the Council of Europe and secretary general of the Cyprus Youth Council.
