Media literacy gaining ground in Hamburg’s education system

A promising sign:

Media literacy is gaining ground in Hamburg’s education system.

A standardized exam for eighth-grade students in the northern German state included an excerpt from Der Spiegel’s 2019 interview with our founder Juliane von Reppert-Bismarck as source material in the German-language section.

Students taking the KERMIT assessment were asked to engage critically with the goals and impact of Lie Detectors’ work, a signal that educators are recognizing the value of media literacy in mainstream education curricula.

We’re grateful to Hamburg’s educators and curriculum designers for championing critical thinking and digital literacy in today’s classrooms.
